Iced Cold Coffee Recipes to Drink This Summer

We all love our morning pick-me-ups. Nothing beats that first cup of coffee to get your day started on the right foot. When it gets hotter, though, a steaming cup of Joe becomes less appealing.

Although drinking hot coffee, according to science, should actually cool you down by making you sweat. But who wants to be hot and bothered? Sweating is acceptable if you're at the gym or building a raised planter to repurpose your coffee grounds for your garden, but it's essential as well to help us cool down because sweating is your body's natural air conditioning.

Fortunately, there are several ways to enjoy your morning coffee. We've compiled a list of five iced cold coffee drink recipes that will give you a boost of energy while also allowing you to relax this summer.

Ideal Iced Coffee Recipe Bruud

The Ideal Iced Coffee

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 pound of dark roasted, high-quality coffee beans (pre-ground or whole beans for grinding)
  • 4 quarts (approximately 3.8 liters) of water
  • Ice cubes
  • Milk (dairy or non-dairy alternative)
  • Sugar or sweetener (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Start with half a pound of dark roasted, high-quality coffee beans. If you prefer, you can grind the beans yourself, but pre-ground coffee is also suitable.
  2. In a reusable container with a lid, combine the ground coffee with four quarts of water. Make sure the container is large enough to hold the mixture comfortably.
  3. Allow the coffee and water mixture to sit overnight. This will give enough time for the flavours to infuse and create a strong brew.
  4. The next morning, strain the coffee mixture to remove any remaining coffee grounds and sediments. You can use fine cheesecloth as the first strainer, and then filter it again through a paper towel to ensure a smooth texture.
  5. Fill a glass with ice cubes, leaving enough space for the coffee and milk.
  6. Mix the coffee and milk in a 1:1 ratio. For example, if you pour 1/2 cup of coffee, add 1/2 cup of milk. Adjust the ratio according to your taste preferences.
  7. Optional: Stir in a dash of sugar or any sweetener of your choice. Start with a small amount and add more if desired.
  8. Pour the coffee and milk mixture over the ice in the glass, then give it a gentle stir to combine all the ingredients.

Enjoy your homemade iced coffee! The resulting beverage will be strong, refreshing, and delightful, perfect for beating the heat.

Remember, you can customise your iced coffee by adding additional flavours such as flavoured syrups, vanilla extract, or/and whipped cream on top. Feel free to experiment and make it your own!

Iced Irish Coffee Recipe Bruud

Iced Irish Coffee

As legend has it, Irish coffee was invented to keep arriving visitors warm as they disembarked a seaplane in the dead of winter in County Limerick. This recipe has the opposite effect: it’ll keep you nice and cool. Our version uses Jameson’s Irish whisky, but you can also make a non-alcoholic version if you’d like.

Ingredients:

  • Cold brew coffee
  • Shot of Jameson's Irish whiskey (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons of simple syrup
  • Ice
  • Whipped cream
  • Freshly ground nutmeg.

Instructions:

  • Start with your prepared cold brew coffee.
  • In a shaker filled with ice, combine a shot of Jameson's Irish whiskey (or omit for a nonalcoholic version), two tablespoons of simple syrup, and the cold brew coffee.
  • Shake the mixture vigorously until the shaker becomes cold to the touch.
  • Strain the mixture into a tall glass filled with ice.
  • Top the drink with whipped cream.
  • Sprinkle freshly ground nutmeg over the whipped cream.
